App Review: Case Management with GoodReader Sync
When you meet with a witness before court, you probably leave your desktop at the office.
If you have your iPad, you can still take notes during your meeting and review exhibits, such as photos from the scene. (Hat Tip: iPhone JD) As you add information to the case folder that you have created in GoodReader, you can sync that information back to the office for when you return to your desk.
To get started, you need to designate the same location – “Open Cases” – in Dropbox and GoodReader where you are going to store case folders:
On your computer, create a Dropbox folder called Open Cases. For each of your pending cases, you should create a new folder within Open Cases. On your iPad, go to GoodReader, click Manage Files, select New Folder, and type Open Cases. When you sync, your individual case folders will appear in GoodReader.
Now you are ready to setup the GoodReader Sync, as I describe below.
In GoodReader, connect to Dropbox and select the Open Case folder:
At the bottom of the screen, select Sync:
Select your Open Case folder in GoodReader:
Select Download and Synchronize. That’s it, you have completed the initial setup.
After you work on a case file at your desktop or on the iPad, click Sync and the changes will appear in the corresponding client folder in both locations:
GoodReader Sync allows you to stay organized and work efficiently without extra time spent transferring documents between devices. Note, you may prefer to wait to sync your iPad at the end of the day if you have a lot of files. For example, you might meet with five clients, make annotations on each of their files throughout the morning, and only when you return to your desk will you sync so that your iPad notes are available on your desktop.
